Instagram is an extremely popular social network and a lot of people use it to share photos, videos and more with each other. Instagram doesn’t offer an official way to turn off the direct message feature.
However, there are workarounds that will allow you to not be bothered by direct messages.

Restricting an Account
Restricting an email address gives the owner of that address full access to Messages in your Amazon Prime account. Additionally, you’ll have the ability to control if people can see their comments on your posts. Importantly, there is no way for a followee to know that you’ve blocked them, so they won’t even know that they’ve been blocked by you.
Mobile (Android and iOS)
There are two ways to block people from an Instagram profile.
The first method: Go to your Direct Message conversation with them and send them this message.
Click the icon (I) and then on restrict.
And the second method: Go to the person’s profile. Tap ‘Follow’ in the upper right corner of your Instagram account. Then click on restrict account.
Desktop
Go to the person’s account. Click the three-dot icon in the upper-right part of their profile. In order to restrict access to your Amazon account, select ‘Restrict.
Blocking an Account
You can block an account from following your Instagram profile, finding your profile or viewing your story. Of course, this goes for direct messaging as well. If your account is in good standing, Instagram won’t allow people to follow you, even if they don’t know you.

Android & ios users can block an individual from following their account. However, only accounts that you have previously followed will show up. You can prevent this from happening by simply logging into your account and going to your home page.
If you want to block an individual from contacting you, you’ll have to log into your account. You can do this by tapping the three-dot icon at the top right side of the screen. Tap on the “Block” option.
Windows
You’ll have to do a bit of digging to find the “Block” option on Windows. It’s hidden in a menu under the privacy settings. There you’ll see a section called “Blocked People”. Here you can remove individuals from following your account and you can prevent direct messaging.

Even if your profile is Public, anyone can contact you, including spam.
You don’t have to ask them. There’s a better way. Find out what they’re doing wrong, then you need to choose private profile. With a Private profile, only your followers can message you directly and you can approve followers. To make your profile private, click on the pencil icon in the top right corner of the page and select “Privacy Settings.

- On the top of the screen, under Account Privacy, make sure the Private Account checkbox is checked.
Turning Off Notifications
You can’t turn Direct Message off altogether. But if notifications are what bothers you, you can turn these off in a couple of seconds.

You can see more information about your activity history, such as when you added something to your Wish List, made an order or sold something from your wishlist.
Click on the Settings tab, then click on Notifications to change how you receive Direct Messages.
If you want to turn off all notifications, flip the switch on the left side of your account. As you can see, you can disable notifications for many of the different features in Instagram.
